Summary of Position:
Fleet Controller will be responsible for the management of all fleet operations for the Group of Companies with national oversite for fleet strategy, budgeting, reporting/metrics, optimization, training and development, asset life cycle and replenishment, programs, policies and procedures. The incumbent will possess a solid understanding of best practices related to fleet and freight management operations spanning regulatory, technology and logistics. This position will be based in Brampton, ON with travel required within Ontario and British Columbia.

Requirements Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Establish long and short term goals with performance indicators for the Fleet and Freight departments including Risk Management strategies
  • Development and execution of national fleet and freight strategy; responsible for 200+ units
  • Manage the operational and capital budgets for the portfolio of duties and provide budget recommendations for fleet and freight operations
  • Schedule and conduct monthly meetings with stakeholders to review costs, metrics and trends and identify for continuous improvement of related activities
  • Oversee efficiency of activity between all business units – where savings should occur, consolidated freight and fleet movement and solutions
  • Oversee and promote safe driving for all team members, inclusive of CVOR management, such as daily hours, logbook completion, and pre-trip inspections
  • Monitor, prepare and present regular performance reports on operating costs versus budget/targets including identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Responsible for the leadership and development of direct reports, including providing coaching, mentoring and development
  • Develop and maintain thorough and current knowledge of all applicable regulations and legislation
  • Overall accountability for all procurement agreements/tenders/vendor contracts, including insurance agreements and renewal processes
  • Proactively develop and implement new policies, procedures and practices and ensure full compliance of all drivers to all organizational policies and procedures as well as governing rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and review all new hire, ongoing driving behaviour and accident/incident reviews, and regular and ongoing reviews of individual drivers and records
  • Preparing tenders, quotations, request for proposals and contracts, lease arrangements and all related vendor negotiations
  • Supervise and support the Fleet Manager with reviewing all owned and leased vehicles, scheduling preventative maintenance as necessary
  • Oversee the Safe Driving Policy and ensure process is adhered to and up to date, including fostering a climate of safety regarding all fleet operations
  • Travel to all warehouse locations to ensure operational compliance
  • Monitor and report on all compliance issues and results and provide guidance and leadership on compliance issues
  • Identify areas of potential compliance vulnerability
  • Update and maintain the Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration
  • Other duties shall be assigned as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess 2+ years experience in managing resources, including people, budgets/capital plans and has responsibility for the longer-term viability of capital plans and expenditures
  • Possess 2+ years experience in leading and managing long-term strategic plans for the organization that support efficiencies, address client business needs and align with the legislation, security standards and strategic business plans
  • Preference of having experience working with fleet assets, insurance process, and development of policies and procedures
  • Strong leadership, teambuilding and coaching skills to support growth and development of the team – work with the team and be present to their needs and requirements
  • Demonstrated relationship-building and communication skills through prior experience
  • Understand and use financial reports to effectively manage the business, inclusive of budget building, monitoring and addressing with solutions
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to be flexible and multitask
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation
  • High sense of urgency and consistently delivers results
  • Professional demeanor, ability to work with and influence at all levels internally and externally
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementation skills.
